Hinges

Stasi prison January 20, 1986

Another Monday.

Another cold early morning ride in the caged bus.

Another week working into the pockets of this stupid regime.

For my ‘special task’ since the rapture of my flexors they lock me in the warehouse.

No windows but blinding, white fluorescent tubes all over the place.

Sorting and counting 30’000 metal hinges a day.

At least the noise is gone.

Most stupid task ever.

Brain-locked.

The foreman ‘forgets’ to get me out for a break.

“You do this again and I’ll refuse to do this shit!”

“Then they’ll lock you in the basement with the rats.”

He seems to wait for me to snap.

If he won’t stop the ugly grinning I might just.

But I won’t get down to his level I promise myself.
