Just sitting

Stasi prison July 26, 1985

One by one we are let in.
Tiny cells with four seats each.
After ten minutes there is no air anymore.

Inside the "Grotewohl Express". The windows didn't open of course.

I have no desire, energy and nerve to even look at the others.
A guard winds a sanitary wrap around my wrist.
“Show this to the doctor at your prison.”

“Where will I go?”
“I don’t know!”
I’m hungry.

The wagon is just sitting there.
No engine in sight.
No air.

After an hour we get a cup of tea.
It tastes like old grass.
My stomach growls.

How long will we sit here?
How long will it take?
Where will we go?
