Long and dark

Stasi prison July 21, 1985

Transport day.

The guard drops breakfast and one word:

“Packing!”

Not sure how much time I’m having.

My brain spins: where to, how?

Packing what?

Got my one set of changing clothes.

The last book I read.

Letters.

Hugs to the comrades.

“See you on the other side.”

Being pushed out of the cell.

Rushing through the hallways.

Basement, changing clothes.

My private ones!

Jeans!

Shirt!

Shoes!

Feels like a human again.

Nobody says a word.

Paperwork.

After one hour waiting We are ready to go.

Nobody tells me where.

A long, dark hallway.

Long and dark.
