The gang

Stasi prison July 27, 1985

The cell is at full capacity now which means we are 12.
There is a wet cell next door.
5 sinks, 2 lavatory bowls.

Finally I get to greet everybody.
And it is a big relieve!
All political prisoners!

Everybody is really friendly and supportive.
They’ve all gone through this.
What an empathy!

We spend the rest of the day and night sharing our stories.
The way they treat each other tells me that the wisdom of the crowd has determined that they are all - by and large - trusted.

What a treat after all the stress, the hunger, the pain, the fear!
And it’s only Saturday: tomorrow we’ll have all day to continue.
I feel like among old friends and I cry in my bed for happiness.

*Testimony -> Start. This blog entry is part of a linear narrated testimony of the contemporary witness Jens Thieme who was imprisoned 1985-1986 as a political prisoner in various GDR prisons by the GDR Ministry of State Security. Stasi prison, Stasi jail, Stasi detention.
