Weather Apps for Camper and Boat Trips
I use these all the time for preparation of the camper and boat trips as well as during camping and boat cruises.
Windfinder
With Windfinder I can judge and decide what to pack in the camper or what to prepare before I head out with the boat. Included in the current weather and weather forecast are wind speed, wind direction, also in an animated weather map, temperature, wave direction, wave height, wave period, cloud cover, precipitation and air temperature.
In the embedded example below I chose Andora, Liguria (Italy). I come to neighboring Cervo often and since the camper is always beachside camped, there is a huge difference - depending on weather conditions - how I spend my days and nights at the Ligurian Riviera and this camping location specifically. This informs the packing and preparation a great deal. Also in order to decide if I will anchor out there or seek a marina or canal for shelter when storms are forecasted.
Click at the Windfinder logo in the screen to open the website or app when you have it installed. There you can easily look for any of the 160‘000 spots worldwide to find one of their 20‘000 weather stations nearby.
Ventusky
The name is derived from the Latin Ventus (wind) and Sky but it offers so much more than current weather, weather forecast and wind speed like precipitation, wind gusts, wind direction, animated wind direction, cloud coverage, radar, satellite, air pressure, thunderstorms, humidity, waves, snow cover, and air quality. Which makes it a really helpful weather companion for camper trips and boating tours.
Click at the Ventusky logo in the live weather animation above to open their website that features a ton of weather options.
They also offer a mobile app and everything is entirely free and scalable.
