Cuffed

Stasi prison January 22, 1986

I had it with that idiot.

3:30 alarm sirens again.

4:15 the first guard shows.

“I won’t go.”

Silence.

Gone.

The comrades don’t try to convince me.

Everybody understands it.

We’re all in that boat.

The cell door opens at 5:15.

“You stay here.”

Waiting.

7:20.

Door flies open violently.

Two guard outside, one steps in.

Cuffs me.

CUFFS ME!

“I’m in prison already!”

They rush me down the hall.

I’m not sure what’s going to happen.

Will they beat me up, convince me to obey?

Hands cuffed behind my back.

What if I stumble and fall?

This is scary.
