Felt

Stasi prison January 22, 1986

“Strip!”

First word all day.

Getting a set of even older clothes.

“Why?”

“It’s cold down there.”

What’s: DOWN THERE?!

Besides: the clothes are older and dirtier but not warmer.

They hand me an old felt blanket.

Army, decommissioned.

I get to keep my shoes and underwear.

“No new underwear?”

“What for?”

Now they got me frustrated.

One thing I learned though: don’t show it.

The officer disappears again which means: more wait.

So, they will toss me into the hole.

Wondering how that’s gonna be.

Will they still beat me up?
